President Buhari Defends His Eight Years Stewardship Of Nigeria

Just few hours before handing over the baton of leadership to his successor, President Muhammadu Buhari has reiterated his achievements on the economy and the politics of the nation in the eight years of his presidency adding that he was leaving a legacy of credible and fair elections.

He expressed optimism that the February 25 presidential election had instilled hope in the people that elections can be won through proper democratic process.

“In the course of revamping the economy, we made some difficult choices, most of which yielded the desired results.

“Some of the measures led to temporary pain and suffering for which I sincerely apologise to my fellow countrymen, but the measures were taken for the over-all good of the country. I am confident that I am leaving office with Nigeria better in 2023 than in 2015. I thank you all,” the president said in a national address.

Buhari praised the ability of the in-coming president Bola Ahmed Tinubu to stir the country’s economic fortunes to greater heights.

The electoral victory of Bola Tinubu is still being challenged in court by the presidential candidates of the People’s Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar and the Labour Party, Peter Obi.

The court had fixed the hearing for Tuesday, May 30, 2023.

Tinubu is expected to be sworn in as president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on Monday, May 29, 2023.
