Betta Edu’s Scandal: EFCC Invites Chief Executive Officers Of Three Banks

The Economic and Financial Crime Commission, EFCC, has invited the chief executives of Zenith, Providus and Jaiz banks on Tuesday for questioning over alleged fraud allegations rocking the Humanitarian and Poverty Alleviation Ministry under suspended Minister Betta Edu and ex-minister Sadiya Umar-Farouq.

Those invited are Ebenezer Onyeagwu (Zenith Bank), Walter Akpani (Providus Bank) and Haruna Musa (Jaiz Bank), Daily Post reports.

Recall that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had, on  Monday, suspended the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs on Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu over an alleged approval for the disbursement of N585,198,500 meant for vulnerable groups to a personal account and ordered for a thorough investigation into the matter.

The N585 million was meant for payment of grants to vulnerable groups in Akwa Ibom, Lagos, Cross River and Ogun states.

Edu was quizzed at the EFCC office Tuesday. She is the first minister to be suspended from office since members of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) were sworn in in August last year.

Earlier, Sadiya Umar-Farouq was quizzed by the anti-graft agency over alleged N37 billion fraud during her time as the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs.
