An American Airlines regional jet reportedly went down, on Wednesday night, in the Potomac River near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport after colliding with a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter resulting in a multi-agency search-and-rescue operation, officials say.

Preliminary investigations by the Federal Aviation Administration reveal a PSA Airlines Bombardier CRJ700 regional jet collided in midair with the helicopter while on approach to the airport around 9 p.m. local time.

Sixty-four people were on the American Airline flight which departed from Wichita, Kansas, and three on the military helicopter when the aircraft collided near Ronald Reagan National Airport.

Officials say no one is believed to have survived.

According to emergency services chief John Donnelly, about 28 bodies have been found so far, BBC reports.
