Court Adjourns Suit Filed by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Udughan Against Senate President Akpabio to March 25, 2025

The Federal High Court has adjourned the suit filed by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Udughan of Kogi Central District against Senate President Godswill Akpabio to March 25, 2025. The case follows allegations of sexual harassment made by Senator Natasha against Akpabio, which led to her suspension from the Senate for six months without salary.

Senator Natasha had sought an order from the court restraining the Senate Committee on Ethics and Privileges from investigating her. Despite this, the Senate proceeded with her suspension, in apparent disregard of the court’s order.

At the court’s proceedings, counsels for the first, second, and third defendants informed the court that they had not been served with the necessary documents. However, counsel for Natasha, Michael Numa (SAN), argued that all parties had been duly served, presenting affidavits of service to the court.

Justice Egwatu, after reviewing the affidavits, confirmed that all processes had been properly served. Counsel for the Senate President, Kehinde Ogunwumiju, requested an adjournment to harmonize all the processes. Other counsel supported this move, highlighting that it would facilitate a quicker resolution at the next hearing.

Justice Egwatu granted the request and adjourned the case until March 25, 2025, ordering that all relevant processes be served on the parties involved before the next hearing.
