Nigeria’s Diaspora Organisation, China Chapter, has strongly condemned a viral video showing Chinese nationals handing out naira notes to Nigerian police officers in a lined-up formation. The footage, which has sparked outrage on social media, shows uniformed and armed officers receiving cash in what appeared to be a coordinated and deliberate act.
The incident has stirred widespread criticism, with many Nigerians calling for urgent reforms within the Nigeria Police Force.
Reacting to the situation, the acting president of the China Chapter, Ms. Okoye Chiamaka, expressed deep concern over the video, describing it as a serious embarrassment to Nigerians both at home and abroad.
“This video has caused a huge embarrassment not just to the Nigerian Police Force but to the dignity of Nigerians as a whole, home and abroad,” Ms. Okoye stated.
In response, Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Muyiwa Adejobi, issued a statement condemning the conduct of the officers, describing their actions as unprofessional and unethical.
“The Nigeria Police Force has taken note of a disturbing video making the rounds in the media space, showing police officers receiving money from a Chinese national,” he said.
“The Force strongly condemns the conduct exhibited by the officers in the video, which does not represent the established ethics, standards, and core values of the Nigeria Police Force.”
Adejobi confirmed that the officers involved have been identified and are currently undergoing disciplinary proceedings. Although he did not specify the nature of the sanctions, he assured the public that appropriate justice would be served.
He also issued a stern warning to individuals and organisations who engage police officers for special services such as escorts or guards.
“The Nigeria Police Force hereby cautions individuals and organisations privileged to the services of police personnel, particularly as escorts and guards or other specialised services, to desist from any act capable of degrading the integrity of its officers and bringing the Force to disrepute,” Adejobi warned.
The incident continues to generate heated discussions online, with citizens demanding transparency in the disciplinary process and broader accountability within the Force.
