2027 Election: We’ll Defend Obi’s Popularity, Ensure Our Votes Count – Peter Ameh

Former National Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Peter Ameh, has vowed that Nigerians will protect their votes in the 2027 general election.

Speaking in an interview with Channels Television, Ameh said all “illegal processes” that undermined voters and election outcomes in the past would be challenged.

“We will put mechanisms in place to defend the popularity Peter Obi has earned and the acceptance he now enjoys,” Ameh declared.

Defending Obi’s pledge to serve only one term if elected in 2027, Ameh said the proposal aligns with the unwritten rule of an eight-year rotational presidency between the North and South. According to him, sentiments from northern Nigeria show growing support for Obi, with many in the region — and across the country’s suffering masses — disenchanted with President Bola Tinubu.

“It is clear that the next election will not be business as usual. That’s why you see the government scrambling to give appointments and make changes,” Ameh added.

Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, has reiterated his plan to complete the South-North power rotation by serving a single four-year term if he wins in 2027, when he is expected to face Tinubu again at the polls.
