Dangote Cement, a subsidiary of the Nigerian conglomerate founded by Aliko Dangote, has commissioned a new ₣100 billion cement plant in Attingué, about 30 kilometers from Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. The facility, which spans 50 hectares, boasts an annual production capacity of three million metric tonnes, making it one of the company’s largest plants outside Nigeria.
At the launch in Abidjan, Managing Director of Dangote Cement Côte d’Ivoire, Serge Gbotta, described the project as “a symbol of confidence in Côte d’Ivoire’s future,” adding that it will provide high-quality cement locally at competitive prices. The investment, he said, aligns with Dangote’s vision to promote industrial growth and regional self-sufficiency.
The new plant brings to eleven the number of African countries hosting Dangote Cement production facilities, with the group’s total output capacity now reaching 55 million tonnes per annum. The Attingué operation is expected to create over 1,000 direct and indirect jobs, supporting youth employment and stimulating small businesses in logistics, retail, and construction supply.
According to the company’s Commercial Director, Stéphane Tchimou, the plant will enhance the construction sector through reliable cement supply and extensive distribution across all regions. He revealed plans for credit schemes and support programs to empower small-scale retailers and strengthen the value chain.
Dangote Cement also plans to establish a training initiative through the Dangote Academy to build the skills of young Ivorian engineers and technicians in industrial management and operations. This, the company noted, is part of its long-term commitment to developing local capacity and expertise.
Beyond industrial activity, the company pledged to invest in community projects around Attingué, including road infrastructure, clean water provision, and health centre support, in collaboration with local authorities and NGOs.
Chairman of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, said the investment reflects the group’s belief in Africa’s potential. “Our mission is to tell a new story—one of innovation, production, and progress for future generations,” he stated. The plant will produce multiple cement grades, helping Côte d’Ivoire cut imports and emerge as a regional hub for cement production and export.
