After days of anguish to the nation and families of victims, the Nigerian government has safely secured the release of the 24 schoolgirls that were abducted by bandits from their school, Girls Secondary School, Maga, in Kebbi State, on November 17, 2025, where the Vice Principal was killed.
Following the release of the students, the bandits who abducted schoolgirls in Kebbi State were reported to have released a video mocking the Nigerian Government, in a display of raw power, claiming that the Nigerian government had arrived at a deal with them to secure the release of the abductees.
According to the report, the bandits in the video, brandishing their weapons in a show of victory, told the hostages that the government had failed and lacked the capacity to rescue them.
Despite their claims, the Nigerian government is yet to disclose where and how the girls gained their freedom.
In the clip shared by @AM_Saleeem on X, one of the armed men is heard questioning the schoolgirls about military aircraft that flew over the forest during their captivity, in an attempt to prove that despite several military aircraft that were seen hovering above them, the Nigerian government could still not secure the freedom of the girls forcefully, except through negotiations, the bandits alleged.
The footage appeared shortly after Kebbi State governor, Nasir Idris and the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, announced that all abducted students had been freed.
Authorities have said the students will be handed over to their parents today (Wednesday).
The government is, however, yet to report of any arrest made in the course of rescuing the girls.
