Music star and Babcock University alumnus, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has donated a new Department of Music and Performing Arts to his alma mater as the institution graduated 3,521 students, including 306 First Class graduates, at its 24th undergraduate convocation held on Sunday, July 26, 2026, in Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State.

The donation was announced by the university’s President and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Afolarin Ojewole, who described it as part of a series of major infrastructure projects aimed at strengthening teaching, research, innovation, and skills development.

Other projects unveiled include a vocational and skills development centre donated by Dr. Akinyele Oladeji in partnership with the Babcock Business School, and the nearly completed Dame Caroline Oladunni Adebutu School of Pharmacy donated by Sir Kensington Adebutu.

The convocation also celebrated outstanding academic excellence, with Oluwapelumi Oluwatobiloba Amosu emerging as the overall best graduating student with a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 4.96.

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who delivered the convocation lecture, urged the graduating class to remain resilient and focused, stressing that success comes through perseverance, hard work, and the value they contribute to society.

Professor Ojewole charged the graduates to uphold integrity, pursue excellence, and become worthy ambassadors of the university wherever they find themselves. He said the institution would continue investing in modern facilities and digital transformation to prepare students for global competitiveness while remaining committed to producing graduates distinguished by scholarship, character, and service.

Founded in 1959 as the Adventist College of West Africa before relocating to its permanent campus in Ilishan-Remo and becoming Babcock University in 1999, the institution has grown into one of Nigeria’s leading private universities. Owned by the Seventh-day Adventist Church, it has expanded its academic programmes, research capacity, professional schools, and infrastructure over the years, earning a reputation for academic excellence, discipline, and the production of graduates who have excelled across business, public service, medicine, law, technology, and the creative industries.
