ASUU strike: ASUU Resumes Negotiations With The Federal Government

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has disclosed that it will resume negotiations with the federal government  Thursday, in order to fashion a way out of the present quagmire between the union and the federal government.

The Union, in a statement on Wednesday night, said ASUU was ready to continue talks with the federal government after the breakdown in negotiations experienced by both the union and the FG a few days ago.

According to the statement, the Chief of Staff of the President, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, alongside the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, will be representing the FG at the negotiating table. Other registered trade unions with representatives of ASUU are also expected to be in attendance.

Recall that the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) extended its ongoing strike for another 12 weeks due to what it described as the ‘Government’s failure to live up to its responsibilities.’

The Union had accused the Federal Government of insensitivity towards the plight of the poor an not tackling the issue of the strike with the seriousness it deserved.
