Following the industrial dispute declared by two in-house unions at the transmission company of Nigeria, TCN, over two million Nigerians were plunged into darkness for several hours, as the striking workers shut down the national electric power grid, Wednesday.
Electricity was however restored to parts of the country after 12hrs, on the intervention of the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, on Wednesday after an emergency meeting with some members of the striking unions.
The incident which occurred at 15.01hrs, on Wednesday, resulted in generation load imbalance and multiple voltage escalations at critical stations and substations.
This unfortunately is happening just weeks after the nation had emerged from hectic grid management regime, caused by paucity of generation, which lasted for some months.
Such strikes in addition to the poor generation of power and the frequent collapse of the electricity grid have been blamed for the poor electricity supply that has been a decades-long challenge for many Nigerians.
