The Atta People’s Assembly of North America, APANA, an impressive network of indigenes of Atta, living in Canada and the United States of America, recently took its biggest step at philanthropy when it held its Annual National Convention and fund raising for the restoration of a befitting health care facility in Atta, Ikeduru, in Imo State of Nigeria.
The Assembly also used the occasion to elect its new crop of executive members who will stir the ship of the association for the next three years.
The event took place on Saturday, May 28, 2022, at the Golden Terrace Banquet hall in Atlantic Avenue, Richmond, New York City.
The out-going Chairman of APAN, Mr. Alexander Njoku, in his address at the occasion, explained that the Assembly was embarking on the project of upgrading the existing health care facility in Atta, in order to stop the incessant and avoidable deaths that keeps recurring in the community owing to the use of outdated facilities.
“We are tired of the scary “3:00am” calls reporting the death of a loved one from a “brief illness “ as it is referred,” he said.
He appealed to members to support the organization in this project of restoring the health system in Atta, in order to put an end to such calls or reduce the frequency of such occurrences .
In his remarks, the newly elected President, Chief Godwin Ehirim – IDEH, expressing willingness to tackle headlong the task of reviving the medical health system in Atta with his new team, urged all Attarians to be ready to work hard and take this organization to greater heights.

According to Chief Ehirim, things are hard all over but things are extremely harder for the people at home.
He, however, posited that by working together Atta people in diaspora can lighten the loads of others at home. He prayed that God will guard and direct them
as they embark on this journey, while congratulating the out-going Chairman, Dr. Alex Njoku, for his dedication and hard work towards the development of the association, during his tenure.
Other newly elected members of the Association include: Princess Gilbert – Vice President
Dr. Ikenna Nwokem – General Secretary
Dr. Romanus Ajero – Treasurer and
Mr. Macauley Njoku – Financial Secretary.
Others are: Ms. Evelyn Childs – Public Relations Officer and Barnabas Lewis – Provost.
The occasion which was well attended by sons and daughters of Atta from all works of life and their well – wishers ended with a gala night. There was an out pouring of congratulatory messages from members and friends alike who lauded the ‘noble project’.
