Human Rights Activist, Sowore Rearrested

Human rights activists and presidential candidate for the African Action Congress AAC Omoyele Sowore was rearrested by the police on Friday outside the Kuje Magistrate Court in Abuje, minutes after he was granted bail for participating and convening the “Free Nnamdi Kanu'” protest.

Magistrate Abubakar Sa’id of the Abuja Magistrate Court had granted Sowore and 12 others bail. They were facing charges  of unlawful assembly and disturbing public peace, after participating in  last Monday’s “Free Nnamdi Kanu protest in Abuja.

Sowore was reportedly taken to an unknown destination after the police whisked him away from the Court premises, shortly after he was granted bail.

Recall that Nnamdi Kanu’s brother Emmanuel and lawyer, Aloy Ejimokor, along with other defendants were granted bail in the sum of N500,000 each. They were each asked to tender their passports, provide a verified National Identity Number, and show a three year tax clearance certificate before being released.

The police is yet to release an official statement regarding Sowore’s arrest and whereabout.
