The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has opened an investigation into the derailment of a Kaduna-bound train, which occurred at about 11:09 a.m. on August 26, 2025, at KM 49 between Kubwa and Asham stations. Six passengers were injured in the incident, though no fatalities were recorded.
In a statement signed by its Public Affairs Director, Ms. Bimbo Olawunmi Oladeji, the Bureau said a dedicated go-team has been dispatched to the site to collect evidence, engage stakeholders, and establish the circumstances leading to the derailment. The NSIB expressed sympathy to those injured and assured affected passengers of its full support.
Director General of the Bureau, Captain Alex Badeh Jr., said: “We deeply sympathise with all who sustained injuries. Our investigators are on the ground to uncover the root cause of this derailment. The NSIB remains committed to ensuring safer rail transport for Nigerians through transparent and independent investigations.”
The Bureau added that its findings will lead to safety recommendations aimed at preventing a recurrence and promised to provide updates as the investigation progresses.
