Labour Party Spokesman, Diran Onifade, Explains Why Peter Obi Was Detained At Heathrow Airport

The campaign office of Labour Party on Wednesday has explained why Peter Obi was detained and harassed by immigration officers at Heathrow Airport in the United Kingdom.

The Labour Party campaign spokesman, Diran Onifade, said the former Anambra state governor was questioned for a long time by immigration officers at the Heathrow Airport in the United Kingdom, while trying to enter London, which, according to Onifade was so strange for a man who had spent over a decade living in the UK.

He said the governor was detained and questioned for a duplication offense, suggesting that someone must have been impersonating him

Onifade pointed out that the implication of that is that someone could be  committing all kinds if weighty crimes and it would be recorded in Obi’s name

“Since the impersonator is still at large, the scenario is unimaginable as Obi could be implicated in a series of forbidden acts and even be framed in a manner that could be a huge embarrassment to him,

Peter Obi was however released after the people quickly raised their objections to his detention, before the immigration officer explained to the bewildered crowd why Obi was being questioned.

“Obi arrived the Heathrow Airport in London from Nigeria on Good Friday, April 7, 2023, and joined the queue for the necessary airport protocols when he was accosted by immigration official who handed him a detention note and told him to step aside,” Onifade said.

Recall that the Federal Government through it minister for information, Lai Mohammed, had accused Ob and his running mate Datti Baba-Amed of treason.

Peter Obi of the Labour Party reportedly came third, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission in an election that was conducted on February 25, while  Atiku Abubakar of the People’s Democratic Party came second and Tinubu of the All Progressive Congress won the election to become the president-elect, in an election that was widely described as flawed both local and international observers.

Peter Obi and the Labour Party as well as other opposition parties are contesting the outcome of the election in court.
