Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), on Tuesday, re-arrested suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, after a battle with the officials of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS).
Emefiele was taken back into custody by the DSS after the Federal High Court’s ruling, Tuesday, that he be granted bail in the sum of N20million.
Justice Nicholas Oweibo of the federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, had in his ruling ordered that the suspended governor of the Central Bank Of Nigeria be remanded at the correctional center pending the fulfillment of the bail conditions.
But, the DSS officials, shortly after the ruling positioned their Hilux vehicle used in bringing Emefiele to court in a manner suggesting that they intend to take him back, thus prompting Emefiele’s counsel, Joseph Daudu, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, to raise alarm alerting the public of the State Security’s plan.
After a protracted wait in the court room by Emefiele and his counsels, the prison officials moved to take custody of Emefiele as the court had directed but was immediately intercepted by the State Security agents.
The DSS overpowered the prison officials and whisked the embattled banker into their vehicle and took him back to detention.
