Court Grants Emefiele N20million Bail

The federal high court sitting in Lagos, Tuesday, granted the suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, bail for N20million.

The court in Ikoyi finally granted Emefiele bail after he pleaded not guilty to allegations of possession of a single barrel shotgun (JOJEFF MAGNUM 8371) without license leveled against him by the Nigeria’s secret police.

The embattled governor arrived court premises around 9:20am in a white hilux pick up vehicle accompanied by men of the Department of State Security.

Mr Emefiele was suspended from office on June 9, 2023 by president Bola Tinubu, and was taken into custody the next day. He has been in detention since despite pleas by his lawyer, Joseph Dauda, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, for his release.

Emefiele has served as governor of the CBN since June 2014 until his suspension on June, 9, 2023.
