World Powers Divided As Trump’s Venezuela Intervention Sparks Global Outcry And Support

By Our Reporter

World leaders issued sharply divided reactions following President Donald Trump confirmed U.S. military strikes in Venezuela and subsequent  capture of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife. While some allies praised the move as a blow against authoritarianism, many countries condemned the action as a violation of sovereignty and international law, urging restraint and de-escalation.

Across the Latin American countries, Colombia called for urgent de-escalation and moved to protect civilians and manage possible humanitarian or migration spillovers along its border. Cuba labeled the operation a “criminal U.S. attack,” while Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva said the strikes crossed an “unacceptable line” and threatened regional peace.

For major U.S rivals like China, Russia, Moscow, Iran and North Korea, they described the operation as an ‘aggression’ and a breach of the International law. China demanded the immediate release of Maduro and his wife, while Iran and Russia also condemned the strikes, with Moscow pushing for dialogue and an emergency U.N. Security Council meeting. North Korea similarly denounced the action as an encroachment on Venezuela’s sovereignty, according to CBS News.

But the European responses were more cautious, blending criticism with concern for stability. The European Union reiterated that Maduro lacks legitimacy but stressed adherence to international law and the safety of EU citizens. France described Maduro’s removal as good news for Venezuelans while criticizing the method, and Spain, Germany, and the U.K. called for de-escalation, legal review, and a peaceful, democratic transition.

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, however, openly praised Trump’s decision, describing it as bold leadership in the service of freedom and justice.

As the world riles from the shock of the U.S operation in Venezuela, world leaders are closely watching for the likely political, humanitarian and legal implications of the U.S Intervention in Venezuela.
