The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has lambasted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over what it calls a failed promise to deliver 24-hour electricity to Nigerians.
In a statement on Sunday, ADC’s Interim National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, said the President has made little progress on his campaign pledges, including ending estimated billing and providing uninterrupted power.
“Mr. President, you once said: ‘If I don’t give you electricity, don’t vote for me.’ Well, Nigerians are listening. And come 2027, we intend to grant your wish,” the statement read.
The ADC cited a 240% hike in electricity tariffs since May 2023, 12 national grid collapses, and the continued blackout affecting over 90 million Nigerians. Abdullahi also highlighted the lack of a clear recovery plan and slammed the federal government for what he called a “shocking lack of urgency.”
“Millions still fuel generators daily and charge phones at kiosks. In rural areas, families remain completely off-grid,” he added.
