The Catholic Arch Bishop of Lagos, Most Reverend Alfred Adewale Martins has called on all Nigerians to play their path in ensuring a free, peaceful and credible election by coming out en masse to vote into power only God fearing leaders who are capable of steering the country towards the path of prosperity
Speaking in his New Year Mass homily on Sunday, at the Holy Cross Cathedral in Lagos, the Prelate , while admitting that Nigerians have been through very turbulent experiences in the year2022, assured them that only God fearing leaders will wipe away their tears, adding that there was nothing too difficult for God to do.
He pleaded with the people to seek divine guidance in the quest for peace in the New Year and to ensure that the year is free from chaos and anarchy
“We need peace in Nigeria this 2023 . Without peace, the forthcoming general elections would be a task in futility. I know many parts of the country are witnessing so much insecurity. That is why our security agencies must work round the clock to secure all parts of the country and ensure that all criminal elements are brought to book.” Arch Bishop said.
He further praised President Muhammadu Buhari for promising to ensure that Nigerians have a free and credible elections, but said that the president alone cannot do it and urged all to play his/her role by ensuring that they come out peacefully to cast their votes for the right candidates.
The New Year Mass was also used to celebrate the 56th World Day of Peace.
