The Southern Governors Forum at the end of the meeting held on Monday, 5Th July 2021, reviewed the current security situation in the country, constitutional amendment and Petroleum Industry Bill, PIB and came up with a communiqué.
The southern governors agreed on the following:
Reaffirmed their commitment to the unity of Nigeria on the pillars of equity, fairness, justice, progress and peaceful co-existence between and amongst the people
The forum reiterates their commitment to the politics of equity, fairness and unanimously agreed that the presidency of Nigeria between the southern and northern Nigeria and resolved that the next president of Nigeria should come from the south.
Resolved that the chief security officer must be duly informed should for any reason the security institutions need to undertake any operation
The forum set Wednesday 1ST September, 2021 as deadline for the promulgation of the anti-grazing law in all member states.
Resolved that funds deducted from the Federation account for the Nigeria Police Security Trust Fund be distributed among the states and federal government for cordial security challenges
The forum commends the National Assembly for the PIB bill, but rejects its 3% and supports its 5% share of the oil revenue to host communities. Also, rejects the proposed 30% of profits for the exploration of oil and gas in the basin.
The governors resolved that to consolidate our democracy, they rejected the removal of electronic transmission of results and also rejected the confirmation of exclusive jurisdiction in pre-election matters on the federal high court.
The forum disagrees on the ownership structure of the proposed Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, and refused that the company be vested in the federal ministry of finance but should be held in trust by Nigerian Sovereign Investment Authority since all ties of government have stakes in that vehicle.
