A Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday affirmed that former President Goodluck Jonathan is constitutionally eligible to contest the 2027 presidential election, dismissing attempts to bar him from the race.

The court held that Section 137(3) of the 1999 Constitution cannot be applied retroactively against Jonathan, whose previous tenure began before the constitutional amendment came into effect.

The judgment effectively clears the path for Jonathan to seek another term if he decides to join the 2027 contest.
