Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has revealed the reasons behind his defection from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing the party of deviating from its founding principles.
In a video posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, El-Rufai claimed that the APC was responsible for the internal crises within opposition parties, including the Labour Party (LP), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).
He alleged that the government, led by President Bola Tinubu, was deliberately fueling disputes within these parties to destabilize their leadership.
“The crisis in the Labour Party is contrived and funded by the government of the day, everyone knows it,” El-Rufai said. “Jumping from one court to another is all designed to distract the party leadership from their core functions. The same thing is happening in the PDP and even in the NNPP.”
El-Rufai further pointed to internal struggles within the NNPP, specifically mentioning the reported expulsion of its key figure, Rabiu Kwankwaso, as evidence of orchestrated instability.
“When you see things like that, you’ll know it’s a contrived crisis. Which party sacks a sitting governor, and that is the only governor they have?” he remarked.
The former governor emphasized that his decision to leave the APC was based on moral grounds, citing his disagreement with the party’s current direction.
