The Federal Government has inaugurated passport processing centre for the Southeast.
Announcing this, Thursday, the government indicated that the reason was to eliminate completely the activities of touts in passport racketeering, and to make it less cumbersome for citizens irrespective of where you reside to apply and obtain their international passports with ease.
Minister of Interior Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, who made this known at the unveiling of the enhanced e-passport and inauguration of the Passport Production Centre in Enugu, said the payments for passports had been digitalised.
He claimed that the whole idea was to also resolve once and for all the disturbing and recurring issue of scam and corrupt practices in the Nigerian Immigration Service, NIS, adding that the enhanced e-passport would improve application process for Nigerians in the country and abroad.
He warned Nigerians to desist from patronizing touts and officials of the NIS for the application of their international passports forthwith, as the government has made production of passports easy and less stressful.
