The declaration of Nigeria as a ‘Country of Particular Concern’, CPC, by President Donald Trump of America, has continued to generate reactions from well meaning Nigerians.

Among those attempting to proffer solutions to  the federal government of Nigeria on how to de-escalate the tension in the country arising from Trump’s declaration, is the Director, Abuja School of Social and Political Thoughts, Sam Amadi.

Amadi has called on Nigerian leaders to make efforts to address religious rights and stop deflecting. He made the call on Monday when he appeared as a guest in an interview on Arise Television

Recall that President Trump had recently redesignated Nigeria as CPC  following allegations of genocidal killings of Christians in Nigeria, an allegation the Nigerian government has continued to vehemently deny.

President Trump also threatened that he had asked the Defence Department to prepare for possible military action in Nigeria if the Nigerian government “continues to allow the killing of Christians”.

Reacting, Amadi said, “The criteria in the US International Freedom Act are clear. In cases where a state fails to protect the rights of its citizens, the US government can prioritise action.

Amadi said; “Nigeria has failed to address the issue of religious rights. People should never be victimised for their religious beliefs.”
