Just a little over four years after his dethronement, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State, Thursday, acquiesced to the reinstatement of Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II as the 16th Emir of Kano.
Yusuf also removed the five former emirs and ordered them to vacate all official residences and hand over former emirate properties to the commissioner of local governments, within 48 hours.
The Commissioner for Local Government would reportedly be responsible for all emirates, subject to the approval of the governor.
Recall that former governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje deposed Muhammed Sanusi 11 on March 9, 2020, for ‘disrespect’, and replaced him with Aminu Ado Bayero .
Prior to Sanusi’s deposition, on December 5, 2019, Ganduje went ahead to split Kano emirate into five, establishing Kano, Bichi, Gaya, Karaye and Rano emirates.
Ganduje assented to an amendment to law on October 14, 2020, and signed another amendment on April 11, 2023.
Section 3(1) of the law established five distinct emirates. They include Kano, Bichi, Rano, Gaya and Karaye.
However, after assessing the emirates, Kano State House of Assembly, on Thursday, dethroned the five emirs and abolished the five emirates in the state.
