The Abia state governor-elect, Alex Otti, has s he would not allow Abia state’s money to be shared, but will instead, use the money to work for Abians.
Speaking in an interview on Channels Television, Thursday, Otti, who made it clear that he will adopt Peter Obi’s model of governance, when Obi was governor of Anambra State between 2006 and 2014, to cut cost, appealed to all those who had stolen the state’s money to return such.
The governor elect added that there was so much work to create within the public sector, stressing that he would replicate his presidential candidate’s model, Peter Obi, who did very well in Anambra State because he reined in the cost of governance.
He said he was not prepared to spend State’s resources precious time chasing them through legal means as there was so much to get done.
“If you have taken any money, and it’s still with you, return it. But I’m actually not going to dissipate energy chasing real or imagined criminals, real or imagined looters, but I will not allow corruption.
“I will not allow our money to be shared. I’ll like our money to be used to work for our people,” he said.
“I know that the enormity of work that is required in Abia is a lot and I wouldn’t want distractions.
“I’ve stayed there long enough to know that whenever you start a probe, you begin to get distracted.”
According to him, by the time one is done with the probe and there is a report, which would have indicted a lot of people, “the process now begins”, Otti stated.
Otti was Wednesday declared winner of the governorship election in Abia State which took place on March 18, after a long drawn battle with his opponent Okey Ahiwe of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP.
His election generated so much joy and hope among the people of Abia, who believe they have suffered decades of mismanagement and bad governance.
Otti’s election therefore, is hinged on huge expectations and hopes which appear not to be lost on the governor-elect.
