Over 22 people have reportedly died, with many arrested while several are hospitalized following injuries from gunshot in the town of Homa Bay in Western Kenya as hundreds of protesters trooped out demanding for the resignation of William Ruto, president of Kenya.
Kenyans were protesting a bill to increase taxes by Ruto. Although, the president has since bowed to pressure by rescinding his decision, the youth-led protesters appear unrelenting in their demand that Ruto leaves.
Kenyan police are having a herculean task trying to keep the protesters away from the streets, even as more people took to the street in complete defiance.
Ruto, who has only spent two years in office, after his narrow electoral win against his closest political opponent, Raila Odinga, is battling with the most serious crisis since his election, as protesters mostly youths go online mounting calls for Ruto’s exit, while demanding a complete overhauling of the political landscape.
