Lagos State Government Suspends All Activities Of NURTW from All Parks In The State

In a bid to ensure the safety of lives and property of all Lagosians and their visitors, the Lagos state government has suspended the activities of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, from operating in all parks and garages in Lagos state.

This was contained in a statement on Thursday by the State’s Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso.

“After considering the provisions of the law, the Government hereby suspends the activities of NURTW, which must cease to operate in all parks and garages in Lagos State. The Government will set up a Committee to immediately take control of the parks and garages. Members of the committee will be key stakeholders in the sector.

“The Government’s position is premised on its responsibility to ensure that there is no breakdown of law and order in all parks and garages in Lagos State,” the Lagos state government’s statement reads in part.

The Lagos state chapter of the NURTW has been enmeshed in a leadership crisis that has generated so much tension in the state of late.

And the decision by the Babajide Sanwo-Olu-led administration may not have been unconnected with the leadership tussle within the NURTW; and many believe the action taken by the state to be in tandem with the request of the Lagos State  Chairman of the NURTW, Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as Mc Oluomo.

Hours after his suspension by the national body, Mc Oluomo pulled out of the national body and asked the state government to take over parks.
