Former lawmaker and ex-chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Kabiru Marafa, has accused President Bola Tinubu’s administration of entrenching the “monkey dey work, baboon dey chop” culture within the party and government, a system he said Tinubu had promised to end.

Marafa, who represented Zamfara Central in the Senate from 2011 to 2019 and coordinated the Tinubu/Shettima 2023 campaign in Zamfara, announced his resignation from the APC during an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today on Monday.

He alleged that Tinubu failed to reform the APC’s internal reward system, which he claimed was corrupted under the Buhari administration and continues to fuel widespread discontent within the party.

“People were not happy with the tail end of Buhari’s government. He promised to eradicate the concept of ‘monkey dey work, baboon dey chop.’ Only for him to entrench it, institutionalise it, and make it state policy,” Marafa said.

The former senator also vowed to mobilise against Tinubu in the 2027 election.
“I’m going to deduct one million out of Mr. President’s votes that he got in 2023. Mark my words. I’m going to do it,” he declared.

Dismissing claims that he is politically irrelevant, Marafa insisted that the mood in Zamfara has shifted against the ruling party.
“Because of the heavy disenchantment of the people, anybody you can call substance in Zamfara State—we’re on one side,” he added, recalling how Governor Dauda Lawal, a political newcomer, defeated APC heavyweights in 2023 due to public resentment.
