Ministerial Nominee Slumps During Senate Screening

A mild drama ensued, Wednesday, during the screening of the three new presidential nominees at the Senate, when one of the nominees, Abass Lawal Balarabe, while taking questions from the senators suddenly slumped at the podium.

Abass L.Balarabe is the replacement for the former governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, whose confirmation at the Senate failed months ago when he was nominated by president Bola Tinubu.

Senate president, Godswill Akpabio immediately sent for a doctor and ordered that the Senate resolve into an executive session.

The nominee was taken to the National Assembly clinic, as journalists and cameramen were expressly told to stop filming and vacate the Senate Chamber.

The Senate convened after about an hour, and thereafter the Senate confirmed three nominees; Abass Balarabe, from Kaduna State, Dr.  Jamila Ibrahim and Ayodele Olawande, who were nominated as Minister of Power, Minister of Youths and Minister of State for Youths respectively.

Balarabe took the podium after Dr. Ibrahim finished sharing his experiences, when the incident occurred.
