The kidnapped pupils and teachers held in Oriire, Oyo State, have been rescued. The Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, announced this in a post on his verified X account on Friday.
He wrote, “Finally, all the kidnapped pupils and teachers in Oriire, Oyo, have been rescued by our security agencies.”
In a video shared by Onanuga, one of the rescued teachers could be seen thanking President Tinubu.
The pupils and their teachers had been held hostage for approximately 56 days. Recall that on May 15, 2026, bandits stormed three schools in the Oriire Local Government Area of the state and kidnapped more than 39 pupils and teachers.
Unfortunately, one of the teachers did not survive, having been beheaded shortly after the attack, a development that heightened fears for the safety of the remaining hostages.
