Ortom Reacts To Killings Of 51 Persons At Otukpo Local Government Area Of Benue State By Herders

Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has reacted to the attacks on Umogidi community in Otukpo Local Government Area, LGA, of the state by suspected armed herders that claimed 51 lives.

The governor, represented by his deputy, Benson Abounu, in a tour of the community, where he visited the graves of the victims of the attack, expressed disappointment at the security agents inability to stop the marauding herders and pleaded with the people to remain calm.

“I advise you all to remain calm and be security conscious and remain ever vigilant to avoid being killed like chickens,” he advised.

The Governor also met with persons displaced from the attacks at Adoka Centre on Friday, including the Umogidi community, known to have come under serious attacks by the marauders.

Some of the people who lost their loved ones claimed that the attack was unprovoked, and that they didn’t see it coming.

“It was an unprovoked attack, we had no problems with the herdsmen, that is why we cannot understand why they attacked us in such a gruesome manner,”            the Chairman of Otukpo Local Government Council, Mr. Bako Ejeh an indigene of the community said.
