The Nigeria Police Force has arrested the alleged Director-General of the fictitious Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), marking a major breakthrough in the investigation into the fake government agency that falsely claimed official recognition and presidential backing.
The Police reportedly announced the arrest on Tuesday July 14, 2026, following weeks of manhunt.
Recall that the PFIPC scandal first came to light in October 2025 after the Presidency discovered that Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew had allegedly been parading himself as the Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), a body the Federal Government says never existed.
Investigators allege that he used forged presidential appointment letters and other official documents to project the council as a legitimate government agency, reportedly securing office space in Abuja, seeking official recognition and diplomatic support, meeting with foreign diplomats, and facilitating the opening of bank accounts in the names of the purported agency.
The controversy deepened when the fictitious council was found to have been allocated ₦1.3 billion in the 2026 Appropriation Act, prompting widespread questions about how a non-existent agency made its way into the federal budget. President Bola Tinubu subsequently ordered the ICPC to investigate the affair, while the police charged Adeyemi with forgery, impersonation and obtaining by false pretence. Adeyemi has maintained that his appointment was genuine, but the Presidency has dismissed the claim as false.
