President Tinubu Charges Newly Sworn-in Defence Minister, General Christopher Musa to Bring His Wealth of Experience to Bear on His New Job

President Bola Tinubu has charged the newly sworn-in Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa, to bring his extensive operational experience, strategic depth and institutional knowledge to bear in strengthening Nigeria’s defence posture.

President Tinubu made this command at the brief swearing -in ceremony of ex Chief of Defence Staff, CDS, Christopher Musa, on Thursday, at the State House in Abuja, adding that the defence ministry under General Musa’s watch must prioritise synergy among the services, accelerate reforms, and sustain momentum in on-going joint operations.

The President also stressed the importance of procurement transparency, improved welfare for personnel and deeper inter-agency cooperation

Recall that President Tinubu had nominated and sent the name of the ex CDS, to the Senate for screening and confirmation immediately after the resignation of  Mohammed Badaru, the former Minister of Defence, who vacated the position on Monday on account of health conditions.
And by Wednesday, the Senate swiftly confirmed Musa’s appointment, after thoroughly drilling him on security matters.

Badaru’ s resignation came as a result of worsening security situation in the country.

Shortly after taking the oath office, the new minister said his immediate priority is to reposition Nigeria’ s defence architecture and restore its central role in protecting the country.

“My immediate priority is to ensure that defence takes its rightful place in the country,” Musa said. He thanked Nigerians for the confidence they reposed in him, while pledging total commitment to the President’s vision for a safer and more stable Nigeria.

Musa, until June served as Nigeria’s 18th Chief of Defence Staff, is widely regarded as one of the most experienced officers of his generation, having commanded counterterrorism operations in the North-East and provided strategic oversight for nationwide military engagements.
