Supreme Court Ruling Sparks Relief in ADC Coalition Camp

By Our Reporter

A wave of relief swept through the opposition coalition on Thursday after the Supreme Court of Nigeria set aside an earlier ruling of the Federal High Court concerning the leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

In a unanimous judgment delivered by a five-member panel led by Justice Mohammed Lawal Garba, the apex court nullified the controversial “status quo antebellum” order and reinstated the David Mark-led leadership of the ADC pending the determination of the substantive case.

The court held that the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal exceeded its jurisdiction by issuing the order after dismissing the appeal brought before it by one of the parties’ factions.

The ruling comes amid heightened tensions within the party, as leaders had convened a crucial meeting on Wednesday night at Mark’s residence, weighing possible outcomes ahead of the judgment.
