The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has issued permits to three Meter Asset Providers (MAP) contracted by Ikeja Distribution Company (DisCo) to install 1.074 million meters.
The commission in a statement over the weekend said it also granted permits to five other MAPs to install meters for Benin DisCo.
In the franchise area of Ikeja DisCo in Lagos State, Mojec International Ltd is to install 399,790 meters, Consolidated Infrastructure Group Ltd will supply 397,922 units and New Hamshire Capital Ltd will do 276,699 meters.
Benin DisCo appointed FLT Energy System Ltd, G-Unit Engineering Ltd, Inlaks Power Solution Ltd, Sabrud Consortium Ltd and Turbo Energy Ltd to provide meters within its franchise.
NERC insisted that the roll out of the meters remain May 1, 2019 and that single phase meters will sell for N36, 991 while three phase meters will be bought by electricity users at N67,055.
Last week, the Commission granted permits to five MAPs to install 1.4m meters for Abuja and Jos DisCos from May 1 at the same costs.
“Customers of Ikeja & Benin DisCos should expect from the commencement of rollout date for meters to be installed in their premises within 10 working days of making payment to MAPs in accordance with section 18 (3) of the MAP Regulations 2018.
“The commission shall monitor closely the rollout plan of distribution licensees and overall compliance with the regulation and various service agreements by the MAP and electricity distribution licensees,” NERC noted in the statement.
