The Vice- Chancellor of the university of Benin, Prof. Lilian Salami, has announced the immediate closure of the university following the protest that rocked the institution on Tuesday.
The ews Agency of Nigeria reports that the students of the institution obstructed traffic on the ever busy Benin- Lagos expressway and the Ekheuan Road over a N20,000 late registration levy imposed by the school authority.
NAN reports that the students described the decision as unpleasant given the ‘unfortunate economic situation ‘ in the country.
In a statement issued by the Registrar of the institution, Mr. Ademola Bobola, Salami ordered that all students should vacate their hostels and the university premises not later than noon on Wednesday.
This, according to the school authority is based on security reports to avoid students action being hijacked by hoodlums.
The university resumed for 2020/2021 academic session on Wednesday.
