President Donald Trump of the United States of America has formally declared Nigeria a ‘Country of Particular Concern’, following reports of genocidal killings among christians in Nigeria.
Recall that there has been repeated calls by some prominent Nigerians for the US to intervene in the situation in Nigeria which has left many christians in the country dead and many more displaced from their homes and farms, and left to become refugees in their own country.
President Trump appears to have heeded to the call, when in a Truth Social Post on Friday shared on the White House’s X handle, Trump declared Nigeria a country of particular concern.
In the post, the US president wrote: “Chritianity is facing an existential threat in Nigeria. Thousands of christians are being killed. Radical Islamists are responsible for this mass slaughter. Iam hereby making Nigeria a country of particular concern.’
‘But that is the least of it. When christians or any such group, are slaughtered like it is happening in Nigeria (3,100, versus 4,476 worldwide) something must be done.’
‘I am asking Congress man Riley Moore, together with chairman Tom Cole and the House Appropriation Committee to immediately look into this matter, and report back to me.’
‘The United States cannot stand by while such atrocities are happening in Nigeria and numerous other countries.’
‘We stand ready, willing and able to save our Great Christian population around the World,” Trump concluded in his post.
