“I’m Not Furniture”: Drama as Court Grants El-Rufai Bail, DSS Moves Him Into Custody

By Our Reporter

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir el-Rufai, was on Monday granted bail by Justice Joyce AbdulMalik of the Federal High Court in Abuja before being reportedly returned to the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). The court adjourned the matter until the following day after the prosecution requested more time.

Tension, however, erupted during a court break when operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) allegedly attempted to move el-Rufai to their facility despite existing court orders directing that he remain in ICPC custody. According to family members, the former governor resisted the move, insisting he could not be transferred arbitrarily.

Speaking outside the DSS facility, his second wife, Hasiat, reportedly condemned what she described as harassment and disregard for court directives. She said the family now lives under constant fear amid alleged surveillance, threats of raids, and monitoring by security agencies.

The family further alleged that after the afternoon proceedings, el-Rufai was again taken toward the DSS facility instead of being returned to the ICPC, where he reportedly refused to step out of the vehicle in protest.
