The National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, says the Federal Government’s new directive requiring Prospective Corps Members to present a compliance certificate from the Nigeria Education Repository and Databank, NERD, will strengthen cooperation among institutions and improve transparency in the mobilization process.

Speaking at the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Pre-Mobilization Workshop in Abuja, the Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, said the

initiative would help create a smoother, more credible transition from school to national service. He urged Corps Producing Institutions to properly sensitize students and ensure full compliance with the policy.

Nafiu stressed that effective mobilization was not the responsibility of the NYSC alone, calling on regulatory agencies, security institutions, and relevant ministries to support the process through policy direction, capacity building, and strict enforcement. According to him, stronger collaboration among stakeholders would eliminate bottlenecks and improve service delivery nationwide.

He further charged stakeholders to confront existing challenges with bold and innovative solutions, noting that a transparent and accountable mobilization system would benefit both the scheme and prospective corps members. “When we work in synergy, we ease the path for our Prospective Corps Members, ensuring that their transition from student to national service is smooth, transparent, and credible,” he said.

Earlier, NYSC Director of Corps Mobilization, Mrs. Rachel Ideawor, described the workshop as a key platform for collaboration between the scheme and tertiary institutions. The event attracted representatives from the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, National UniversitCommissione on, National Board for Technical Education, the Federal Ministry of Education, NERD, SIDMACH Technologies, and over 260 Student Affairs Officers from institutions across the country.
