Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara has rescinded his decision to run for the 2027 governorship race under the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the state.
He said his decision to withdraw from the race was due to the need to preserve peace, stability, and unity in the state.
In a statement, he personally signed on Wednesday, Governor Fubara stated that his decision came after a deep reflection and extensive consultations with family members, friends, and political associates.
The governor said that although the decision was difficult, he remained committed to supporting whoever emerges as the candidate of the APC in the forthcoming governorship election.
“Leadership is ultimately about sacrifice. There comes a time when personal ambition must yield to the greater good of the people. Rivers State is bigger than any individual, and at this critical moment, the peace, stability, and unity of our dear state must take precedence over every personal interest,” Fubara stated.
He expressed gratitude to his supporters for their loyalty and sacrifices throughout the political process, acknowledging the disappointment many of them may feel over his decision to step aside.
Fubara also said his silence in recent weeks was intentional and guided by what he described as the higher interest of the state, noting that he had faced enormous pressure and difficult choices.
“Let it be clearly understood that I stepped aside from participating in the upcoming Rivers State gubernatorial election not out of weakness, fear, or surrender, but out of conviction and sacrifice so that Rivers State may move forward in peace and unity,” he added.
